Many historians attempt to trace the beginnings of Baptists to some point in the 17th century. Yet the distinctives of the Baptist church give us a continuing lineage through many historical Christian faiths that date back to the days of the first Christian churches. The name “Baptist” provides us an acrostic of these distinctives. It stands for Biblical Authority, Autonomy of the local church, Priesthood of all believers, Two offices, Individual soul liberty, and Separation of church and state. In this course you will study these distinctives and the history of the Baptists. At the completion of this course, you will have a far greater understanding and appreciation of who the Baptists are and what distinguishes them from all other Christian denominations.
